APPLYING THE SEVEN INDICATORS IN THE CASE STUDY

Step 1. Review the case study and write notes about each important comment, thought, or implication for making executive decisions.

Step 2. Review each of the seven indicators and theoretical frameworks.

Step 3. Ask the following questions about the case.

• What is/are the prominent theme/s in the case?

• What are the key issues in the case?

• How does each of the seven indicators speak to the case and to Randolph Brown, Alton Bowen, and Tammy Caster?

Step 4. Organize the seminar/class into teams of three members and share information gained from Step 3 (this can done face to face or online).

Step 5. Return to one large group and initiate role-play simulation. Ask each member to pick up a 3 × 5 card from the table. Eight members who find a name on the back of their card will become actors for the role play. The names are:

1. Randolph Brown, Superintendent

2. Patricia Goldstein, Board President

3. Jackson Tate, Board Member

4. Alton Bowen, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources

5. David Collier, Board Member

6. Betty Davis, High School Principal

7. Hector Polmero, Business Director

8. Tammy Caster, Curriculum Director

Scene 2: Task force meeting: Randolph Brown begins the meeting, and other actors/speakers are Hector Polmero, Betty Davis, Tammy Caster, and Alton Bowen. After Randolph presents his idea for online teaching and reassigning teachers, all actors engage in the conversation.

Step 6. Each class/seminar member writes a one-page solution response and shares it with others.
